NHC IS 100% POWERED BY THE WIND
NHC has chosen to offset 100% of its company-wide energy use by purchasing nearly 2,400 megawatt-hours of wind energy. By purchasing renewable energy credits equal to the company's entire electricity use, NHC becomes the first and only company in Rhode Island to earn the EPA's Green Partner Partnership certification.

Renewable energy certificates are credits that individuals, institutions or businesses can buy to compensate for the amount of nonrenewable, greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels -- such as coal, oil and natural gas -- used in their vehicles, homes, offices or other facilities. Buying the certificates helps subsidize the cost for a wind farm, solar farm or other renewable energy producer to generate an equivalent amount of clean energy and put it back into the national power grid.

NHC has committed to offset all 2.4 Million kilowatts of annual electricity use with mid-west wind power, this is the equivalent of preventing 1,670 tons of Carbon Dioxide from entering the atmosphere.

INTRODUCING GREEN POWER AT NHC
Green power is a marketing term for electricity that is generated from environmentally preferable renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydro. Green power is sold to support the development of new renewable energy sources. Products made with green power always contain a higher percentage of electricity from renewable energy sources than conventional electrical service.

A NEW CHOICE
Today there are substantial differences among energy sources that are used to create electricity. Conventional methods of electricity generation in the United States use fossil or nuclear fuels forms of power generation that can be harmful to human health and the environment. However, market changes are making cleaner ways of producing power increasingly available, and consumers now have the ability to choose how their power is generated. Green power offers electricity users a choice to support newer technologies that capture renewable energy sources to create electricity. These renewable sources are continuously replenished by nature and significantly reduce the environmental impacts of electricity generation.
