Spring is here (or is it summer already?) and we're bringing in the boats, bands, and barbeques! We've got a multitude of exciting events planned this season - June through October - from tasty food festivals to a slew of live, evening and all-day concerts with internationally acclaimed artists and musicians. Event announcements keep on coming so be sure to stay connected as the entire 2012 Newport Waterfront Event schedule rolls out. This summer's lineup for the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series is blazing a trail to the most anticipated concert series in the area. On June 29th, we'll kick off with five-time Grammy Award-winner and 2012 Grammy nominee, Ziggy Marley, on his celebrated Wild & Free Tour. In July, we'll host ska-punkers Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime on the 6th and the tex-mex rock of Los Lobos on the 13th. August brings a night of legendary 60's & 70's rock-n-roll with Classic Rock Rewind on the 10th, and the multi-international award-winner k.d. lang and The Siss Boom Bang on the 17th. Considering this is only the beginning of our lineup, it's clearly going to be a very memorable summer. Stay tuned for additional announcements of the 2012 acts!
On Saturday, August 11th, downtown Newport will be the hottest place to chill out with the return of the Newport Waterfront Reggae Festival. We're excited to announce our eclectic 2012 lineup including dancehall legend Barrington Levy, international sell-out Bushman, reggae veteran Junior Marvin of Bob Marley's Wailers, critically acclaimed Taj Weekes & Adowa, the charismatic Mighty Mystic & The Thunder Band, plus local favorites, The Ravers. This year's festival is sure to be a highlight of your summer, and with general admission and breezy re-entry you can enjoy all Newport has to offer between the jams. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Friday 4/20 at 10 a.m.!
We're fixin' for fun at the much anticipated 2012 debut of the Newport Blues & BBQ Festval, Saturday, August 18th. Come celebrate true southern comfort with nationally acclaimed blues artists including Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker, Jr., Shemekia Copeland, Marcia Ball and Joanne Shaw Taylor.
