Words of Wisdom at the Newport Charter Yacht Show

The Newport Charter Show is less than 3 months away and the yacht registrations and sponsorships are filling up! The seminar schedule has been announced and encompasses a variety of industry-focused subjects concerning today’s luxury charter service. Topics include:

  • “Entering U.S. Waters”, describing the process of bringing a foreign-flagged vessel to the U.S.
  • “Discover New England”, focusing on cruising and areas of interest along the coast of New England
  • “STCW Changes and Implications to your Mariner’s License”, highlighting the changes to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) for seafarers, which took effect January 1, 2012
  • “Enhancing Crew and Guest Safety”, discussing the importance of captain and crew preparation at sea and how vital it is for passenger safety.

The seminars will be featured each morning of the June 18-21 event and each is hosted by an industry expert known for their years of knowledge in their particular area.

The Newport Charter Yacht Show, the only one of its kind in the U.S., caters to the charter yacht industry with a showcase of luxury charter yachts as well as ancillary boating goods, services and educational information. It also allows attendees (attending with brokers) to learn more about vacationing on one of the many world-class yachts (ranging from 50 to 200 feet) that will be on display. Brokers interested in signing up to display at the show are invited to partake in a special pricing offer valid now through April 1st, 2012. Newport: Truly the Sailing Capital of the World

With the onset of daylight savings, it’s hard not to think about the long, lingering summer days on the water - the gentle breezes, cocktails at sunset, relaxation pure and simple. And this year, the Newport waterfront is targeted for extreme excitement as the city continues preparations to host an unprecedented number of major world-class sailing races. These international sailing events offer a unique opportunity for professionals, recreationists, and sightseers alike to watch and be a part of, quite literally, the best sailing in the world. The America’s Cup World Series, Ocean State Tall Ships, Newport to Bermuda Race, and the Atlantic Cup Races are just a few of the major events preparing to take place in Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor. In fact, Newport may see over 30 different sailing events from June through September, bringing in thousands of tourists and having enormous impacts on the city itself.

If you plan to be a part of the “Sailing Capital of the World” this summer, be sure to keep in mind a few tips from the pros:

  • Book hotel rooms and make any other reservations early…very early!
  • For watching the America’s Cup World Series, Fort Adams is the place to be; for the Newport to Bermuda start, it’s Castle Hill, without a doubt.
  • When possible, use the shuttles and satellite parking. Parking in town is extremely limited.
  • If you live “on the island”, don’t hide! Come celebrate these unique opportunities afforded by the natural beauty and coastal character of this dynamic “City by the Sea."
