NEWPORT YACHTING CENTER ANNOUNCES GRAMMY AWARD WINNING INDIGO GIRLS ARE BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND AS SEVENTH CONFIRMED HEADLINER FOR THE 2010 SUNSET MUSIC SERIES

NEWPORT, RI, April 15, 2010 -- The Newport Yachting Center announces that the immensely popular, INDIGO GIRLS, will be gracing the stage once again as the seventh confirmed headliner of this summer's 13th Annual Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series on Thursday, July 29th.  Tickets for the INDIGO GIRLS, who are presently touring with a limited amount of dates, will go on sale starting next Tuesday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. and will be available at tiered prices of $50 and $35.  Tickets for all the Sunset Music Series shows can be purchased on-line at www.newportwaterfrontevents.com by using the ClicknPrint system which offers the benefit of “at home” ticket printing.  In addition, those interested in tickets can call the Newport Yachting Center Box Office at (401) 846-1600.

The INDIGO GIRLS, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, released their self-titled album in 1988 and its hit single, "Closer To Fine” proceeded to go Platinum and win the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Recording.  The band was also nominated for Best New Artist that year.  The INDIGO GIRLS took off from there by releasing several albums in the 90’s that went Gold or Platinum, including Rites of Passage featuring "Galileo," the duo’s first Top 10 Modern Rock track.  The band’s latest release, their first that is fully independent since Strange Fire in 1987, is the two CD, Poseidon and the Bitter Bug.

“With nearly a sell out back in 2008 there’s been big demand to bring the INDIGO GIRLS back and we jumped at the chance when we found out they were available,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center.  “We expect another incredible response this year from the Indigo fans!”  Palmieri added that she will have a very special announcement regarding the eighth and, most likely, final headliner of the Series within a week or two.  “We’re really excited about featuring a format that we haven’t tried before. It’s going to allow attendees to take extra advantage of our beautiful waterfront venue and the city of Newport so stay tuned!”
