Headline: Great Chowder Cook-Off T-Shirt Contest Asks, "What Would Clyde Do?"

NEWPORT, RI, April 7, 2010 – This year’s competition at the 29th Annual Knorr® Great Chowder Cook-Off, to take place at the Newport Yachting Center on Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., is heating up and it is not only in the kitchen! This year, a T-Shirt Design Contest which asks the question of event mascot, “What would Clyde do?”, is open to the public with the winning design entry to be featured on the official 2010 Great Chowder Cook-Off t-shirt.
 
Participants are asked to submit their best representation of Clyde the Clam and how they think he is celebrating his upcoming return to Newport to kick-off summer 2010. All entries must feature Clyde but beyond that it is up to the participants’ creative minds to mock up something that will set them apart. To view past designs for inspiration, visit www.newportwaterfrontevents.com.
 
In addition to the design on the official event t-shirt, winners will be invited to the Chowder Cook-Off to take part in the event’s award ceremony and will receive a goodie bag as well a two tickets to a Sunset Music Series show of their choice at the Newport Yachting Center.
 
How to enter:
The Newport Yachting Center is accepting submissions until May 7th. 2010. Please email submissions to info@newportyachtingcenter.com with full name, phone number, and email address along with design attached. Or, you can mail each submission to The Newport Yachting Center, Attn: T-Shirt Contest, PO Box 550, Newport, RI 02840.
 
The following guidelines have been developed for the t-shirt design:
A maximum of 4 colors to be used in the design; no gradients All designs must be made for a white t-shirt Designs should not exceed 12”W x15”H Entries may be hand drawn or created on the computer Electronic submissions can be sent as a high-res .jpg, .gif, .png, .psd, .ai, .eps, or .pdf. Submissions through mail can use marker, crayon, pen, pencils, and/or colored pencils The design must be 100% your work No third-party copyrighted images can be used in any way No designs including profanity, judged at the discretion of Newport Yachting Center, will be considered for submission Design must include an image of Clyde. Visit www.newportwaterfrontevents.com for downloadable Clyde images to use if preferred, although one’s own interpretation of Clyde is also welcome. Design must be received by May 7th to be eligible for contest
 
All submissions, including the winning entry, become the property of the Newport Yachting Center (NYC) and can be used for any and all purposes, including commercial uses, merchandising, advertising and promotion, without the express permission of the artist throughout the event and at a later date at the discretion of NYC. All artwork submissions will not be returned to the artists.  Any artwork not received in the required format, or received after the deadline will also become the property of NYC.

The Great Chowder Cook-Off competition, open to local, regional and international chefs who work at restaurants, catering companies and institutional dining facilities, is a fun-filled day for the chowder creators as well as the tasters. The key requirements to enter the competition are a winning chowder recipe and an enthusiastic staff! Additional information on the Knorr® Great Chowder Cook-Off is available by contacting Mike Martin, Director of the Newport Waterfront Events, at (401) 846-1600, Ext. 210 or visiting www.newportwaterfrontevents.com.
 
The event features all-you-can-eat "chowda" from the nation's best chefs who serve samples of their sumptuous creations to the thousands of chowder loving festival attendees who also act as judges. Chefs compete for the coveted titles of "Best Clam," "Best Seafood," and "Best Creative" chowder with prize money being awarded to the top three winners in each category. The ultimate Clam Cake Competition will be back this year as well with restaurants vying for the most delicious clam cakes in New England designated by local celebrity judges.

But it is not all about the “Chowda” as the festival will also feature three stages of live musical entertainment, including The Ravers and Buddy’s Beach House. A variety of children’s kidSTOPs, fund raising activities for local non-profits and a Marketplace with a variety of crafts and specialty items will add to the festive atmosphere.
 
This year, the gates will open at 11:00 a.m. and the celebration will continue until 6:00 p.m. when the winners in each major category will be announced. Ticket prices for the Knorr® Great Chowder Cook-Off are $20.00 for adults if ordered by Thursday, May 29th (more than a week in advance of the show) and $25.00 the day of the event. Children under the age of 12 are admitted for FREE with a paying adult.
