NEWPORT, RI, March 23, 2010 -- The Newport Yachting Center announces that two more headliners, one a multi-Grammy Award winning gospel-soul group and the other featuring the songs of a Super Group and a laser light show, have been secured for this summer's 13th Annual Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series. Tickets for THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA with special guest and local legend, The Duke Robillard Band, as well as The Machine Performs Pink Floyd with the Interstellar Laser Show, will be on sale starting next Thursday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m. Tiered pricing tickets for all shows can be purchased on-line at www.newportwaterfrontevents.com by using the ClicknPrint system which offers the benefit of “at home” ticket printing. Courtyard Stage: TBD.Five-time Grammy Award winners and the 2009 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award designees, the now–legendary BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA first formed at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in 1939. Today, the gospel and soul group along with its founding member-vocalist, Jimmy Carter, continue to thrill audiences worldwide with their electrifying live performances. In addition to releasing dozens of albums, the Blind Boys were inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame in 2007, have had its songs featured in various television shows, including The Wire and Lost, and toured with numerous musicians, including Peter Gabriel, Tom Petty and John Fogerty.
The band’s 2009 album, Down in New Orleans, won a Grammy Award and, within the past few months, the band performed with Lou Reed on the David Letterman Show to support their new Duets album release and sang at the White House for the President and First Lady as part of “A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement.”

The Machine, America’s top Pink Floyd show, has forged a 20 year reputation of excellence, extending the legacy of Pink Floyd, while creating another legacy all their own. “They duplicate the sound and hits of Pink Floyd with chilling accuracy,” says Matt Diehl or Rolling Stone magazine. The New York-based band focuses on making every show an authentic Floydian experience for their fans. Known for performing a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire (complete with faithful renditions of well known hits as well as obscure gems), The Machine’s live shows feature stellar musicianship, dramatic lighting-laser show and video, and their passionate delivery.
Over the years, The Machine has sold out theaters, large clubs and casinos across North and Central America, Europe and Asia. They have also appeared at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Riverbend, Gathering of the Vibes, Buffalo's Artpark, and Germany’s Rock of Ages. The Machine’s third album will be a “psychedelic” collection of Pink Floyd songs expected to be released this year.
“The Blind Boys lifted the tent with their energy when they last played our venue in 2003 and you will think you’re experiencing Pink Floyd themselves when you hear The Machine along with their unbelievable laser show which hasn’t been a part of their recent performances in the region,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center. “We’re also looking forward to making another announcement soon on one or two additional headliners which will bring our total to seven or eight headliners and put a final exclamation mark on our Series line-up for this summer.”

For each night of the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series, the gates will open at 5:30 p.m., music starts on the Courtyard Stage at 6:00 p.m., the opening act/special guest begins at 7:00 p.m. on the Main Stage, and the headliner starts at approximately8:00 p.m.
