September, Newport, RI…The Five Star Award presented by Edson Marine of New Bedford, MA. has been given out for years at the Newport International Boat Show. In the past it was called the “Steve Collins” Award For Excellence in Portraying Company Image. The judges look at in-water displays – both sailboat and powerboat, plus land and booth displays. This year, the Five Star Award for “Best in Show” at the Newport International Boat Show was awarded to Brewer Yacht Yard. In the judge’s opinion it was the best representation of the boating culture in promoting their products. Directional signage tied in with the Boat Show aesthetic and was a clever way to showcase their offerings. The judges were very impressed with this booth.
Other winners of a $1000 credit toward next years exhibit costs were:
Best in Water Sailboat: the Alerion display with it’s classic look and feel and the nice use of framed imagery showcasing boats in action. In the Power Boat category Grand Banks took the prize. It covered a larger footprint in a nice uniform fashion. According to the judges the centralized meeting space was well placed and inviting. The best Land Display went to Sperry Sails. They made the best of a relatively small space. Selection of their sails were displayed in a fashion that caught your eye from a distance.
