Headline: Chris Isaak to Warm Things Up Next Week at 2009 Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series
Body: NEWPORT, RI, July 20, 2009 -- The Newport Yachting Center continues this summer's 12th Annual Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series during the last week of July when Chris Isaak will be appearing on Wednesday, July 29th.  Isaak’s special guest will be Anya Marina while Chris Monti will take the smaller Courtyard Stage.  Tickets to the show are $65 for preferred seating and $55 for standard seating and are available through the Newport Yachting Center’s convenient ClicknPrint ticketing system at www.newportwaterfrontevents.com which offers the benefit of selecting your own seat and “at home” ticket printing.  Those interested in tickets can also visit the Newport Yachting Center Box Office on 4 Commercial Wharf (off America’s Cup Avenue) in downtown Newport or call at (401) 846-1600, Ext. 2.  The Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series supports The Autism Project of Rhode Island which will organize a raffle at the show of Red Sox tickets and leather recliners courtesy of Cardi’s Furniture.

Stockton, California singer-songwriter, Chris Isaak, first hit the national music scene in 1984 with his debut album, Silvertone, of which two tracks, “Gone Ridin’” and “Livin’ for Your Lover”, were featured in David Lynch’s cult movie classic, Blue Velvet.  His third release in 1989, Heart Shaped World, included his best-known song, “Wicked Game”, which became a Top Ten hit and was featured in the 1990 Lynch film, Wild at Heart.  His 1995 Grammy nominated release, Forever Blue, included the hit song, “Baby Did a Bad Thing” which was featured in Stanley Kubrick’s film, Eyes Wide Shut, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

In 2001, Isaak starred in his own television show, The Chris Isaak Show, which aired on Showtime until 2004.  He also starred in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me in 1992 and with Keanu Reeves and Bridget Fonda in the 1993 film, Little Buddha.  Other motion picture credits include Married to the Mob (1988), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), That Thing You Do! (1996) and A Dirty Shame (2004).

Isaak’s 2009 release, Mr. Lucky, features 14 tracks filled with the glorious, the ugly and the bad of romantic love, from the killer opening song, "We Let Her Down" to the concluding and uplifting "Big Wide Wonderful World”.  Isaak, who has an abiding respect for popular music's past with personal heroes like Roy Orbison and Buck Owens, has a clear and vital passion for the here and now on Mr. Lucky, which is reinforced by appearances by Trisha Yearwood and Michelle Branch.  Currently, in addition to touring, he is host of The Chris Isaak Hour, a music interview and performance show, on the Biography Channel.

"I've been with most of my band for 25 years now,” said Isaak.  “We never get tired of playing together.  The truth is anyone who gets to do what I do for a living... well, I really am one of the luckier guys on earth."

The special guest of the evening is Anya Marina whose one-of-a-kind, almost child-like voice and conversational vocal style is hard to forget.  Raised in the Bay Area’s Silicon Valley, Marina took a job as a radio DJ in San Diego.  It was there, nurtured by the fertile local music scene, that she first began to perform her songs at open mic nights and gather a following.

In 2005, Marina released Miss Halfway, which earned her a San Diego Music Award for “Best Local Recording,” as well as the attention of Alexandra Patsavas, the music supervisor for Grey’s Anatomy, The O.C. and Gossip Girl, as well as head of Indie label Chop Shop Records.  After featuring Marina’s songs on Grey’s she was signed to Chop Shop which released her new album, Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II.  The album is a tightly honed collection of winking pop gems and sexy rock and roll that showcases this newcomer’s deft melodic sensibility and wryly humorous lyrical point of view.  Local singer-songwriter, Chris Monti, will grace the Courtyard Stage.

“This is Chris Isaak’s first visit to the Sunset Music Series and it promises to be a memorable one,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center. “He always makes a connection with his audience as he likes to sing about the ups and downs of love which everyone can relate to on some level.”
